Ok, after some reading I decided to go ahead and get rid of the KN Air filter the previous owner installed. I was going to go back to the original system so I priced out the Parts...... $958.......Ouch!!

So ummmm! Yeah!

Options?

I thought I saw someone talking about a non oil version of a KN and wondering if I could do that.

I have no idea what model numbers are of the KN system I have, I will dig into that tonight I guess.

 

I would try craigslist or on this forums marketplace you maybe able to pick up someones old airbox and tube for cheap

I have an extra that is complete from the snorkel to the filter box. I purchased it so that I could play with the GOTTS Mod and maybe remove the baffles. I have done the mod and I doubt I will do the baffles. If you want it, you can have it for way, way less than new. Just let me know. Check CL and the junk yards too.

I just got a massive medical bill so I have to now sort that out as well. Sigh!

 

So, why are you dropping the K&N filter? As long as you do not over oil it when it comes time to clean and re-condition it, it's fine.

It would be the "open" box design that would steer me clear though. The rubber seal that is supposed to seal it against the hood is not a better design over the stock arrangement; we all know thye stock arrangement draws cool air from the fender...

 

Mostly I just don't like Oiled filters and as you said the design doesn't thrill me.

 

I believe there is a (new)blackhawk k&n filter kit that is oil free but is a little pricey. Definately worth the bucks IMO. I still have the one that has to be cleaned and oiled but as soon as I get a chance I will be getting the blackhawk
