Another question!! When I get 4.56s is that all I need? Just the gears? I know I'd need a bearing kit with shims! But anything else of importance?

Its a fast truck none the less, but its still a v6 xl f150... It's like the neon srt-4, it can hold 500hp w/ 4cyl dohc and turbo and whoop a zo6 with a v8, buttt its still a neon w/ neon stigma. Sorry for mentioning other makes in this forum, I was just using them as examples.

Definitely have someone who is experienced in gears do the job... I had 4wheelparts install mine, and that gives a lifetime warranty

4.56 Yukon R&Ps FTW. Whatever bearing install kit you get just make sure it uses Timken bearings. I did the G2 brand bearing kits b/c they're less expensive than the Yukons but use the same Timken's.

If you ever want to do a locker or aftermarket LS, this is the time. FWIW, the Detroit Truetrac is a rockin upgrade.

EDIT - don't forget to factor new gear oil in your costs. If you go with something like Royal Purple it adds up quick.

I assume you mean the Truetrac? It runs about $460 for the 9.75 diff. Install should be free if they're already doing the gearing.

My 02 4.2 would run circles around the 97 4.6 I just sold. 4.56's are mighty high. The higher the gear the less freeway speed you are going to have. I had 4.10s in my 02 and at 70 I was at 2500 rpm. My 04 5.4 has 3.73s and it tachs around 2200 at 75.
