Default Gauges

Has anyone installed a trans. temp, air/fuel, and water temp gauge on a 2004 5.4L 150? Any additional parts I need to buy?

Any suggestions before I buy them? I can get all 3 gauges, 3 gauge wiring harness, and the pillar pod for $220.

Let me know what ya'll think!

X3...save yourself the installation and time.....except for the air/fuel...going to have to do something different for that.

^ If just the guages are wanted the Edge insight is a guage pod, or the Scanguage II as mentioned before.

If guages and PCM programming is desired, the Edge Evolution, Edge CS/CTS, Gryphon CS/CTS, SCT Livewire, or Diablo sport Trinity are all options.

Well as much as I would love a Edge programmer, I think I'm gonna stick with getting a Auto meter trans temp gauge, and the vent coupling from Roush. That is really the only gauge I need for towing, just wanna watch the tranny!

Anybody know how the temperature sender works? Is there a plug on the tranny you can take out and screw the temp sensor into or do you have to get a weld in flange?

I have trans fluid temp on my scangaugeII reads straight from the PCM. no fuss no muss no drilling no leaks. Not nearly as cool looking though.

The temperature sensor for the Ford F150 automatic transmissions is inside/internal to the transmission shift plate; you cannot get to it. It connects to the PCM and then to the OBD II connector. The Ford OBD II can read this sensor and report it to a SCANGUAGE or other scanner type that plugs into the OBD II port. This is why you're getting recommendations to buy one of these two items.

If you're stuck on using a guage and the Roush AC vent setup, you'll need a sensor probe and a brass "T" type fitting to mount inline with the automatic transmission cooler lines; you'd cut one of these, connect the "T" fitting between this cut, then screw the probe into the third connection of this "T" fitting, then run the wire from this probe to the guage. You'll also need to ground this brass "T" in order for the probe to work as well, as the probe provides the voltage signal to the guage, but it's "base" needs to be grounded. Think of it like a lightbulb; this tip is positive, the ring is ground.

Soooooo much easier to plug a programmer or SCANGUAGE II and use one of them.

And for the record, the SCANGUAGE II can provide the air/fuel mixture as well; the reading is for the output of the first O2; not the downstream one.
