Default Flex Gas

Ok! Before I get some post stating that I should do a "search" which I did but didn't find anything really good info towards it so here I go;

Has anybody tried Flex gas in their truck? Was at a gas station this morning and noticed their price for Flex was $ 3.34 per gallon, that's cheap. My gas cap does display that it's suppose to take Flex gas but am not sure how good it would work and if it might hurt the engine. I know that I would have to return the ECU back to stock which is no big deal.

Thanks in advance

There is a digit in the VIN that should also designate that its a flex fuel vehicle. If your truck is meant to run it then it shouldn't damage it. I hate to say this but try searching E85 and you should find more info. The E85 may be cheaper but you will see less MPG's so it may be a wash.

Personally I ran 2 tanks to just see if the price would help my budget. But as the window sticker stated it only yeilds 10 mpg. So out of a 27 gallon tank when my light came on it had 250 miles on. That was 10.5 mpg. What a pain to refill so often. I get 15 and up to 16.8 out of unleaded. I have read several people that have said at 50 cents plus cheaper it will save you a little but its a wash in time spent refueling and I'm shocked that it always stays 50 cents a gallon cheaper than unleaded here. Try it. But as for me its not worth it. I save 10 dollars a tank but have to fill it 4 to 7 days sooner depending on how many trips I make. Normally I can squeek 2 weeks out of a tank.

Sorry. That is with the 5.4l. And this week I'm at 14 mpg. For some reason it has taken me a full tank to return to normal mpg after a tank of e85 each time I tried it. My dad said it took his computer almost a full tank to reset too.

I am on my second tank and the truck runs great on the stuff. The only station around me that has it wants as much as regular unleaded for it. Not worth changing over for me. I wish there was more of it around in WA, so the price would come down.

Yeah, God forbid if you ask a question without being asked if you used the search! This has bothered me for sometime when people jump all over you if you ask a question without searching first. If people are sick of reading the same questions then don't read them. This is what the forum is for to ASK questions!

AMEN Brother !! If your gas cap is yellow you have a flex fuel truck...but it better be .80 cents a gallon cheaper to break even with MPG.

I live near one of the very few E85 stations in Oklahoma. I was running E85 last summer when gas was $4 and E85 was $1.79. This year the E85 is only .75 cents cheaper and I average 13mpg with it.
