Default first start procedure

So i was trolling through the posts this morning and noticed a post mentioning about flooring the gas and cranking the engine for 20 sec for the first start after oil changes. I did a quick search and ran through a 100 or so post and didn't see anything else.
Can someone fill me in on this, and wouldn't the truck start before 20 seconds?

These trucks won't fire if you have the throttle open 100%.

These trucks are computer controlled. Flooring it does nothing.

Only time has pedal affects cranking is on carb'ed engines

If you floor it, the engine will just crank and not fire.
So yes, flooring while cranking it does do something: not allow the engine to run.

I wouldn't bother. I can't see an advantage, if the engine fires or not it is cranking over, so i can't see that saving you any wear till it gets the oil pumping again. I just fill it, start it, run it for about a minute to cycle the oil and fill the filter, add another liter of oil or so till its topped up, and hammer down.

Change the oil, start the truck with your foot off the accelerator pedal. The oil filter will fill in about 1/2 second, and your oil pressure needle will show pressure in less that 3 seconds. No worries.

You in theory no longer have a "gas pedal"; they are all now drive by wire systems, meaning the accelerator pedal opens/closes the throttle body, which allows air to be mixed with the fuel.

Having the accelerator pedal at WOT (wide open throttle) would not be a great idea at any point of starting a vehicle.

Thats always what a gas pedal does... "Drive by wire" means instead of a cable connected directly from throttle butterfly to pedal, it is pedal to computer, computer tells throttle what to do.
