So you would rather pay the dealer $300.00 (rip off) than $100.00 for the tow and $58.00 for the part to do it your self?

Or do what Jamie930 said.

Some people just need their truck back up and running ASAP.

The $58 part sounds like a great deal but usually people don't want to wait for it to ship while their truck sits somewhere dead.

My fpdm went out last week . When it did , it was just like someone shut the key off . It actually fell apart it was so rotted . It also blew fuse 32 which made it not crank
. But I know what you mean about needing the truck NOW . Had mine towed back to my work , $77.00 . New fpdm from Napa , $103.00 , Bottle of Motrin for stress headache, Twelve of Corona . So yep , can be pricey if you can't wait for shipping .

or you can do like I have done. Order part online, buy same part locally, return online part to local when it arrives

Don't wait go and change it out now. Nothing is worse when you are out in really bad conditions and it goes and leaves you stranded.

When I had my 05 I changed it out at 65,000miles and it's was really bad. I picked up a can of truck bed liner from menards and coated the entire backside of the module so I wouldn't have to worry about the corrosion happening again. I got one from amazon for about $60.

I thought about doing the same thing with Plastidip but was warned not to do it as the metal acts as a heat sink for the electronics inside.

YMMV.

Yep.

Just give it a very light coat of Fluid Film and keep an eye on it seasonally - at the same time that you do the usual seasonal spare tire drop to clean/fill it, service/lube the winch, and the lock over the hole.

Also not a bad idea to carry a spare in yer onboard emergency stash. Or relocate it into the cab.

good luck!
