08f150stx and zmadams hit the nail on the head. Exactly what I was saying. Tuner $300-400, catback exhaust $500+, and a CAI $200-300. $1000+ for at best 30hp. Thats $33.33 per hp based on a $1000 spent.

A used Whipple or Roush will run you between $3000-3500 (bought mine used), a custom tune $300 and a handheld $300-400 (if you don't already have one) and you suddenly have 375-400rwhp. Verses the avg 220rwhp of a factory truck. Thats $23.22 per hp figuring the 375rwhp and $3600 spent. Run the Whipple and you will get the 400rwhp but you're gonna spend $250 upgrading the injectors. You don't have to but thats my preference. And thats $21.38 per hp gained. Just have to keep your eyes open for the used kits. They come up every so often.

Really it's all up to the individual. Not everybody wants that much power nor can everyone afford it. But once you have driven a truck that will run 0-60 in 5 seconds you will never want anything but that power.

The stock trans can hold it fine when properly tuned. Troyer or JDM. Hell Whipple even offers powertrain warranties now.

Troyer all the way for me. But Jdm is capable as well. Mike just gets into the nit picky stuff and I like that. Every detail counts. Mike spent hours on the phone with me before I every used him for tuning or parts. Jdm did not. They just bring us your truck and we will tune it. I didn't like that.

A little. You can pick up a good 30rwhp with the right cams. It's an expensive 30rwhp though.
