Default Engine swap question?

I have a 2004 Ford F150 xlt with 4.6 automatic being toast.
my father in law has a 2000 Lincoln Navigator with a 5.4 engine in it that he’s offering to give.
question is will the engine off the navigator fit the f150?
Has anyone ever done this before?
will I need a different ecu, harness, and would transmission bolt right up?
don’t know much about these trucks but willing to learn.
I can use the help
thank you and have a nice day

I’ve asked this, read others ask this(although usually about if you can put in 4.6 2v in place of 5.4 3v), basically the short answer is no. The longer answer is, with unlimited money/skill/time, anything is possible.

truck looks nice and worth a repower

post updates with what you do and how it goes.

You have to figure out how to make that 5.4 work with drive by wire throttle. That obviously involves finding an intake that will work.

Maybe, just maybe, the ‘03-04 Navigator 4V 5.4 went that route and could work.

That’s where you have to entertain us with those answers.

When I decided to repower my 2004 F150 (5.4 3-valve) I asked my mechanic about installing an older, simpler, more reliable V8. He told me, as laterongc did above, that it was possible but I would not like the cost. The amount of kluge wiring and adaaptation would be very high. We ended up installing a PowerService rebuilt with improved valve control components.

$5661.11. Have about 40k miles on it so far and dead nuts reliable. Money well spent.

NOTE: Make that PowerTrain, not PowerService.

looks like the remans are in the $3,000 range... so $5600 sounds reasonable for a qualified mechanic doing the work.
If it were my money... I would be doing header/exhaust and any other components while in there. $2600 buys ALOT of components
even if it cost me a weekend to pull/replace the engine.

A good exhaust system will net you alot of usable torque and be a lil lighter in weight than stock cast components...
An electric water pump is less parasitic drag
Bigger aluminum radiator for better cooling efficiency and service life. The plastic tanked ones get tiresome.
Some kind of tuning device or a custom tune once its together.
