Default Engine Swap

I have a 2006 F150 XLT with a 5.4L V8. Great enigne, but the one in my truck feels a touch under powered and mileage kinda sucks. So my question is this... Has anyone tried to swap in one of the new 5.0L V8s and/or the 6 speed auto transmission?

I'm sure its possible. Would most likely be expensive unless you were able to do everything yourself.

Just swap a 4bt cummins in. Most people say you'll get around 30 mpg and it will probably cost the same. Maybe a little more depending on how much you pay for the motor. Either way break out the check book. With the 5.0 the power band isn't truck friendly in mosts opinion it's seems.

Yeah, I haven't had the chance to test drive one of the 5.0L trucks. Going diesel is a little more involved than I'm wanting right now though. What about the new 6 speed auto trans? What's the reviews of that?
I'm wanting to get as much power out of my 5.4L as well as get some better mileage from it.

Why not rebuild? Anything you can imagine has been made for the 330ci. Bore and stroke the block and buy larger bore heads and a Crane 260 cam or a little larger. Many parts available and lots of horsepower to be had. And nothing in the Truck world compares to the pleasure you get from building your own performance engine and driving it.

4bt! 4bt! 4bt! If my engine ever goes that's what is gonna go in along with a six spd manual.
Carbed deisel that gets 30 mpg? Hells ya!
And if your looking for power, idk if I would swap a 5.0 in... Yes they are a great motor and I would love to have one but if your trying to upgrade, remember there is no replacement for displacement... Unless u turbo or super charge.

Good luck and keep us Informed!

Everything you want to do is gonna be complicated and expensive.

Try this, have gear vendors build you and under overdrive system. Well basically give you 8 speed. The build your motor. It will be cheaper and easier than any swap. With the 5.0 or 6.2 you need full wiring harness us to match up to your cluster. Plus a lot more. That's my two

What about getting a hold of a junkyard 5.4... doing some research, use the block as a base to build a bottom end similiar to 5.8 in the new shelby (I think it is a 5.4 block with different rotating assembly)... Port and polish the heads, new valves...etc... then everything will plug right into to original spot... Get your hands on a newer 6spd auto, take the whole rig to a tuner, and bam! done

easy!

(probably not!)

Edit:

FYI:

5.4L -
Bore diameter is 90.2 mm (3.552 in) and stroke is 105.8 mm (4.165 in)

5.8L -
The 5.8 L's boreand stroke are 93.5 mm (3.68 in) and 105.8 mm (4.165 in) respectively. TheTrinity is based on the 5.4L V8 used in the previous model year GT500,utilizing the same block geometry but receiving a 3.3 mm (0.128 in) increase inbore diameter.
