Default Engine light on/rough idle

I have an 05 with the 5.4, 77K miles. Truck was running fine all week (180 mile a day commute). Took a 3 mile drive yesterday and it seamed to hesitate almost to the point of stalling. As soon as I parked, the engine light came on and RPM was very low and was idling rough. If I turned the wheel to put strain on the motor, it would just about stall. I wiggled around a few of the COP's, started back up and ran fine. Got on the pedal hard and felt like normal, but the engine light is still on. Since the engine light is still on, is there a way to find out what the problem could be? I had a COP replaced a couple months ago, but when that went, the engine light was blinking. This time, it is just on steady.

Wish there was an autozone around here, but there's not. Ordered an OBD2 scanner, so will check it out when it gets here (cheaper than having stealership do it). Drove about 10 miles today with no issue other than engine light still being on. Hope its just another COP and not something more serious.

Or easier for you, enter the code in a GOOGLE search. All you have to do is type in the code in the search box exactly as it is displayed. Fo example, if the OBDII scanner shows a code P0122 (example), enter this in GOOGLE. You'll get several links to read up on. Most describe the code (what it means), how to test for it, and possible causes (what to test and/or replace).

Your OBDII scanner should have a book that describes the codes as well.

I appreciate the tips. The scanner I ordered says it shows the verbal error, but im sure websites will be more helpful. Just glad it's not my week to drive...good thing for carpools.

I have an 05, and the same thing your describing happened to me about a year or so ago. (I've owned the truck since new) Went to Autozone, and pulled the codes. It stated cylinder misfire. I changed out the fuel filter, poured in some Amsoil PI injector cleaner, and all has been fine since then. Most likely, you got some bad gas. I'm assuming that's what happened to me. No problems since then.

Code reader came today, pulled P0352 - Ignition coil B primary/secondary circuit malfunction. Looked around, but couldnt find anything specific for my truck. Any idea which cylinder this is pointing to? Is the last digit, 2, the cylinder number? Would make sense as that was one of the ones I wiggled around and got it to start running good.

Default Clean throttle body

Same thing just happened to me and it ended up being a dirty throttle body. It ran rough for around six months. The check engine light finally came on and the truck started dying on me continuously. Cleaned it and now it is running better than it has for a year.
