Default Engine Fail-safe Mode?

Alright guys this is my first thread so bare with me,

I have a 2004, F-150 Lariat 4x4 5.4, so I pulled out of my apartments this morning and i heard a chime so I looked at the information screen and it said "engine fail safe mode" so i backed back into my parking spot and tuned it off, waited a minute and then re started it with out a problem. I read a few threads and it said something about the MAF sensor not really sure. I was wonder if it has something to do with the Gotts Mod I did a few weeks ago? This is the only problem I have had since I put it on. is there anything else it could be? any info would be great!

When my truck was in fail safe mode it ended up being in the ABS module. I had to have it replaced. Not that this is your issue.... You could try unplugging your abs module to see if your failsafe goes away. Just drive around the block though. You don't want to drive around with it off too long.

Just learned about this in auto tech class. It sounds like your computer got a false reading and went in to fail safe mode to prevent anything bad from happening. It pretty much keeps you from going over like 40 mph so if something is really bad then you can at least get home without hurting motor. Might want to get some MAF sensor cleaner from parts store and clean it.

After I turned it off then back on it seemed normal and it didn't keep me from going regular speeds. it didn't restrict my speeds, I went passed 40 and was doing 70 on the high way maybe it was just a error of some sort. ill just have to take it to the dealership so they can take a look at it

Yea sounds like it just had a one time error and then forgot about it when you turned truck off.

Default Engine fail safe- 2006 Lincoln Mark LT crew cab

Hi-- new to forum and looking for any recommendations or ideas re: my issues on the Truck-- purchased 11/21/12 with 86k. At time of purchase we negotiated a tune up prior to the 100,000k mile and new plugs; air filter etc put on.. V8 5.4. Engine...About three weeks ago an annoying high pitched whine started to randomly occur at low RPMs. Able to accelerate thru it..and it stops...but then re-occurs. No pattern to it .. but is starting to occur more frequently. occurs when engine is warm or cold. does not whine at start up. We Live in Mich and this seemed to start when weather is below freezing. Also on 2 separate occasions the engine fail safe occurred...both times was in 4 wheel drive and driving at lower speed due to the weather. Both times pulled over and turned off truck...sat for a minute and then restarted andcontinued on. Both times the engine was warm and had been running. After first occurrence took back to dealer -- no error messages found and they couldn't replicate the whine...second time fail safe occurred we had been on the road for 3 hrs starting a vacation. Took to dealer at vacation destination and again no error codes found. They recommended a fuel flush which we did and ....the whine remains! Here's my ?-- could the two issues be related? Or is one triggering the other to occur? I am not a mechanic nor do I do any maintenance (female and first time truck owner!). Any suggestions or recommendations to solve these issues would be welcome before I just start paying for " maybe" this and that.. Many thanks---

Well, im going to go ahead and go back to the original thread lol its been a few weeks since I had the "engine fail safe", and I guess it was just an error because my truck has ran fine and it has not returned. And since then, I had my exhaust installed and my new tires put on hopefully it was just an error
