Question Edge Evolution VS. Bullydog

I have an 05 STX,aem brute force air induction, helix power tower throttle body spacer,40 series flowmaster exhaust, and a BullyDog triple downloader...I see alot of people with Ford having a Edge Evo programmer, and was wondering if they would work better for my truck? Because im still not satisfied(what she said lol). I started out a very slow stock truck,Im alot faster than I was ,but something has got to happen.BTW is firm shifting bad for my tranny?

Hmmm...ok. 1st off, dont go from 1 canned tuner to another. that's an expensive lateral transfer that's not worth it. Get an SCt tuner or the Gryphon tuner from PHP that has custom tunes on it.

2nd-Shift firmness is better to a point. Complicated..I will let Bill from PHP explain that one as his experitise faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrr outweighs mine.

I'd get custom tunes, that way the get the most out of every mod you have and tie them together. PHP makes a unit just like an Edge called a Gryphon and it has custom tunes. VMP and Troyer also make very good tunes using Xcal's.

Firm shifts are better for the tranny, well the clutch plates exactly.

the reason I ask is when i get down on the gas, it whistles when it shifts from 2nd to third and so on to forth.(shifts real hard too..slams your head into the seat) i know that cant be good. there something I can put on my tranny that would prevent things from going south on me? like a shift kit or something? i cant seem to find anybody that knows anything about it.

That's because the programming alters the shifts to be quicker when you mash the peddle all the way. It thinks, "Oh he's mashing it, he want's to go fast", and the way to get a little extra speed is to make the shifts faster, and that causes the shifts to be so rough.

Right now I'm not to fond of PHP because I've waited months and still have not recieved my custom tunes so if you don't need the guages I would get an Xcal from VMP, wish I would've.

That sound is the belt u hear in the shifts. As for the tuners...VMP is the tuner with the shortest time of the top tuners. Troyer's is like 6 months right now. PHP's seems to be heading that way...

Default Sct Programmer

I tried a hypertech III on my 2003 F150 w/4.6 it was ok. Not good enough to buy again.
Since I have bought the two 2008 Fords I have tried SCT programmers on both. I used Evolution Performance http://www.evoperform.com/shop/

I don't know how there custom tunes compare. I am real happy with both tunes. the first was in my 2008 ford Edge AWD and the newest is in my 2008 F150 Lariat 4x4 Screw w/5.4

Both orders took about 3 weeks to get. The orders were Ford Edge - Jan of 2008 and the F150 Jan 2009

There is a big difference in the way both vehicles drive. a good power increase.

I bought the gryphon but I can't give you any tips yet cause I Haven't installed it. Or ordered my tunes yet from PHP. So, I'll let you know once I do. I paid for 175.00 bucks used off Ebay. The reason I picked it was because alot of people on here seemed to be fond of it. Opinions vary like....well you know the saying

I recieved my edge evo and am very satisfied with the easy install (plug-n-play) with 3 preset tunes. So far # 2 ROCKS!!! X-cal and gryphon sound great, but I didn't want to wait. I'm sure I will doubt my purchase when I get complacent. Tires are burning non-the-less...
