is there an alternative that could do better on the fuel economy or just pretty much never gonna make it to a consistent 20mpg on highway travels

You could check out power hungry performances's gryphon. Bill makes some custom economy tunes for it. I dunno how good they are.

Tuners are as good as it gets for improving economy. Your Cd while traveling down the highway is equivalent to a 5k lbs brick. Slowing down is the best way to get better gas mileage. I can average 18-19 if I drive 62 on the highway and see 23-27 on the instantaneous mpg when traveling 35-45 mph through the city with my torque converter locked thanks to the edge.

Really the only thing you can do is make sure your tire pressures are consistent and watch your driving habits.

And make sure your truck is properly maintained.

I have I question. I was reading on here and it looks like everyone only runs "2 towing" on their edge and I wanted to know why no one runs "3 extreme"? Is it bad for the truck? Or is it just personal preference?

From what i gather its because it is alittle more risky and they cant get there hands on 91 octane fuel.

I used to, but got tired of changing to 2 every weekend I went fishing. I also just put on 33" tires and figured I would just leave it there, in hopes of not straining my tranny to my h more, although there probably isn't any more than usual on it.

I have 2005 5.4 and i was wondering if an edge would make my truck run to lean with stock intake? Eventually i would install a cai but not right away. would this damage the truck?

Because you have to run Premium fuel and not many people want to run that all the time. The power differences are definitely significant between the two but I just do it on occasion when I feel like having a more power.

From what I've read, an edge with a standard intake would be fine. But, if you installed the cai and kept running the edge as is, there is a chance it would run lean. Some people say it's ok, some say it isn't. I personally am getting a custom tune for my cai before I install it so I know I won't have any issues. You can always do the gotts mod instead of the cai to improve your intake and that would be fine with the stock edge.
