Default Coil Spring Snapped???

So I go under my truck to check out my front shocks to make sure I bought the right ones only to find something awful. My driver side coil spring has a huge snap in it rift at the bottom It's only about $130 for a pair for my discount price (I work at a Ford dealership) so it's not too bad but still. How does this even happen? I don't beat it up, I don't offroad or anything. Anyone else have this problem? Seems kind of ridiculous.

Is the other post the one where the member lifted the truck 3 inches, then found that he broke a spring?

The passenger side coil spring on my 2004 broke last fall right above the seat.

How does it happen? Time, wear, and the front ends of these trucks are a touch heavier than the old trucks, and the steel is lowest bidder, sooo.....

It happens.
