Check Engine Light Bulb
Does anyone know the if there is a bulb that can be replaced for the check engine light on an 07 larait? Mine has burned out and I need to replace it.
Yes, the bulb can be replaced. You need to pull the trim pieces around the steering column off and remove the cluster. Takes about a half hour your first time.
Sorry but I forget what the bulb size is.

Ha yeah I know tempting. The check engine light is a blessing and a pain. Guess I would rather have it with the ability to turn on rather than burned out. I can always turn it off with my gryphon.
Hi guys, we need some help with my son's new truck. Old thread but the newest and most relevant one I could find to float back towards the top for help with our problem. Seems to be some misinformation here but maybe some corrections to it will help others like me. Dunno.. despite this particular thread being about a 2007 Lariat.. maybe has to do with the Lariat option being different cluster vs the other models?
2006 F150 Lariat with inoperable check engine light. No light during key on.. and no light period despite the code readers coming up with codes related to phaser lockouts(over advanced bank 1 & 2). Separate non-relevant issue and have SCT Livewire TS+ and custom tune to remedy those CEL's. Based on threads like this one and several others around here, and also other Ford truck sites, we assumed we could at least check and/or replace the check engine light while replacing the oil pressure gauges stepper motor. Gotta love the internet but no luck since it's actually a hard soldered SMD style LED bulb located directly on the circuit board. We bought this truck from an.. oh, let's say.. "less than scrupulous corner lot type dealer".. so I have a few questions to either fix it ourselves or better arm ourselves for an impending battle to remedy the situation without pulling even more cash out of our wallet. It is illegal for any dealer in the state of Minnesota to sell a vehicle with an inoperable CEL but I don't mind fixing it if at all possible to avoid further hassles with this dealer.
1. Is it at all possible to completely disable the CEL on these trucks? Maybe HPTuners or some other higher end scanner has the ability to shut it off like some of the other CEL's?
2. When it was apart it seemed like a rather tight SMD installation with no direct solder points or visible pins behind the bulb.. but is it at all possible to remove and resolder in a new replacement LED bulb?
3. If no to the above questions?.. what affect will it have on the trucks current and original odometer readings to find a suitable replacement gauge cluster assembly? Does the ECM store this mileage data and send the correct VIN related readings to the new(or preferably used to save $$$), replacement cluster?
4. Obviously we are concerned about future resale or dealer trade in complications, but any other possible workarounds besides ignoring it and keeping a code reader in the truck(SCT tuner will read and erase) at all times?
Feel like a fool for not checking such a simple thing during key on and getting frustrated so any and all help is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Greg

The above info from a few years ago is false. There is no bulb to replace as you’ve found. If I were you, I’d get a new (used) cluster on eBay and replace the whole thing. They can be had for around $100.
Get one from an 04-06. 07-08 have tpms and yours doesn’t. Make sure you get one from a truck that has/had the same manual or climate control hvac system.
The mileage and vin info is stored in the cluster. You can pay to have the dealer swap the as built data, or just get one with similar mileage. The truck is a 2006, it’s not brand new so I wouldn’t worry that much about the resale value.

I see many sellers have them listed and grouped together for 2004-2008 King Ranch and Lariat models so just wondering if I do need to limit my search to specific part #'s only used for the 2004-2006 models?
If that's the case I may just have to look for used clusters locally to verify what they're actually coming off before purchase.
Thanks again,
Greg
