Default Check engine light

I am probably getting a little ahead of myself here without the codes, but in case my o2 sensor is bad can anyone offer information on where that is?

I was sitting behind an old Landcruiser at a light that had very bad emissions and it was making me sick to be there until the light changed.

Could this have posibly damaged my o2 sensor? I mean the exhaust from that vehicle was so bad that I wanted to get out and tell the guy about it. The smell stuck around for a while after that.

Thanks

I pulled the code and it is P0119. Engine Coolant Tempurature circuit intermittent.

Does anyone know where this is located under the hood?
Do sensors normally go bad?
What is a PCM?

Thank you very much.

PCM is the Powertrain Control Module; in easy terms it is the brain box, located on the firewall, passenger side in the engine compartment.

As to your intermittant temp problem, you need to identify if you have a coolant leak, or if the coolant level is down, Check the overflow tank to see if it is at the "lull" level.

If not, take it in to be diagnosed and repaired. No offense, but it does not appear that you are prepaired to takle this on your own.

None taken. I am just trying to save some money. The coolant levels appear fine and I have never noticed any puddles or even drips of coolant on the ground. The guage in the cab always pretty much sits in the middle.

I also noticed that sometimes when I start the engine, the guages on the left, including the speedometer and tachometer shake a bunch for about 5 seconds and then resume their normal positions. Just wondering if any of this is related.

Thanks

Yea, I checked that. I am seeing a few things that seem to point to electrical.

The code P0119, the gauges shaking when first started, and at lunch I turned the key and I heard the engine try to start. Turned it off, then back on and it fired right up.

Just another though.... if the battery is starting to go bad ( not 12V) it can make the computers a little crazy. My late model BMW whent totally crazy when the battery got week- all sorts of warning lights, limp mode ect... A new battery cured that.

good luck.

I bought a manual to see where the sensor is for this. Apparently it is the EHT (Engine Head tempurature) sensor.

Does this sensor just go bad after 5 years?
Why is it so hard to get to?

A shop said it would be about 5 hours labor for a 30 dollar part.

Have to take off the intake manifold, alternator, ignition coils, drivebelt, all vacuum tubes and some other things.
