Default Changing the carpet.....

I want to change the carpet in my truck because the existing carpet is in bad shape. Is it that difficult to take out the seats and center console or should I break down and pay a professional to do it? Also, if I order the carpet that's pre molded for my truck, would it be difficult to install?

Thanks for any help.

All of your wiring for the truck is hidden under that carpet so that could pose a problem for an amateur to do. Also, yes, taking everything out would be quite challenging if you have never done it. They are REALLY good at hiding bolts and screws that hold stuff down.

Thanks, that's all I need to know. I will spend the extra cash and have the auto trimmer do it.

Well... Since youre having it done professionally you might aswell try to do it. If you fail and screw up some of the carpet, so what? IDK, thats what I would do... If i'm too scared to do it, pay for it, I might aswell try. Failure is always an option, a fun option.

Funny you brought this up. I just took out everything in my interior yesterday for the same reason. I ordered new vinyl flooring that is supposed to be moulded. It really is easy to remove everything. Just a little time consuming. Make sure you have a seatbelt removal socket (basically its a TORX bit). Also, it would be helpful to have an 18 mm deep socket for the rear seat mounting bolts closest to the back of the seats. There is one long bolt on each end and I believe 2 nuts on the inside.

Well, I can get the carpet I want along with the backing for $200. So for me to do it myself it would cost $200 plus my sweat labor.

The auto trimmer wants between $450 and $500. That includes the carpet and labor. My wife thinks it well worth the $200 - $250. But part of me really wants to see if I can to it myself.

I swapped out my seats front and back in about 2 hours! I dont have the center console though. The only thing left was to pull the side plastic pieces.
Go for it! with the $250 you'd save you are almost able to get a programmer!

If I was only changing the seats I wouldn't be too concerned. Since I am replacing the carpets, I am assuming this would be a little more complicated.

I think I am going to try it myself and see what I can do. I will let you all know how it goes.
