go get two bottles of seafoam. with the engine warmn and running take off the vacuum line going to the pcv valve on drivers side valve cover(the boosterline will only feed one or two cylinders on this engine) pour a half a bottle in the line slowly so it feeds into the intake. pour alittle faster as you go, it will start stumbling and running like crap. this will also clean your pcv valve which in this engine is mounted in the center of the intake
if the engine doesnt die shut it off and wait 30mins or more. then start the truck and take it for a spin on the highway to blow out all the carbon. it will smoke like crazy!!
put the left over bottle and a half in the tank and fill up.

gumout regane is also a good in tank add to reduce carbon
techron is very good also
b12 is almost the same thing as seafoam and 1/3 the price so you could sub it for seafoam

 

Could you take a picture of the exact line to take off? I am going to try this soon and see how it goes for me. . I already put some seafoam in the gas tank, and I want to do this but I am not sure exactly which hose to do it to. Also how long before you changed the plugs did you do this? Thanks for the help! and wish me luck in a few weeks when I get all the stuff in to do it...

 

lucky man, i had two break at 75,000 the two rears on each side. had to buy tha damn lislie tool to get em out. NOT FUN. glad u made it with no breaks

 

drivers side valve cover has a hose going to it. it plugs in under the power steering reservoir. unplug it(from the VC) and rotate it up then add seafoam with it running. i would do it a week or so before you change the plugs. also there are even better fuel additives for getting rid of carbon too. try techron, gumout high mileage regane(has to say regane!!) or the redline additive. they all have the same chemical and its great at getting rid of carbon.

I put the seafoam in my gas tank, 2 bottles for the 27 gallon tank and I saw 1-2 mpg's better on my 600 mile trip home I just did... that's worth using them right there haha! ill get another bottle and try that tomorrow. Thanks again!

Did the plugs this past weekend, with 66,700 miles on the truck. Two bottles of seafoam (one in a full tank gas, half in vacuum line and other half in the engine oil) about two weeks ago. Used Seafoam Deep Creep once I pulled the coil packs off, let it sit for about two hours.

All 8 came out no problems. Sometimes better lucky than good I suppose.

Thanks to everyone on here for the pointers and suggestions, definitely cheaper than the stealership!

 

I wouldnt ever use air on a set of plugs, they arnt super torqued to begin with.

As for the job, I plan on doing mine soon, I have 65K miles on my rig, and its running fine now, I just dont want to blow any out of the hood.

What model number were the plugs? Did you notice any improvement in power after changing?

 

It doesn't sound like it's running and better, but I have noticed when punching it going up a hill, that half second of hesitation is now gone.

 

My truck runs much better now. Plugs had 118,000 on them and the gap had grown to over .090". Missed a lot on heavy acceleration. Miss is gone, gas mileage up 1 mpg... not a big improvement. I did all the recommended tricks, took my time. Four still broke.



I don't exactly call those dirty plugs after all the Seafoam I ran through the engine....but, they still broke. Lisle tool worked great though. M1911
