I always thought it would be sweet to fab up something to make a cb blend in with the overhead compartments that hooks on that rail.

that would be cool if you could make a box that slid on that rail, and have a way to hide the wires.

You can either mount atop the dash; the little rectangular niche is a nice level spot or you may want to consider a Cobra self-contained unit like the 75 WX.

I had one in my Chevy and it worked great. It's the CB that contains all controls and components within the handset itself. I simply mounted mine to the inset portion of the center column and ran the wires through the firewall (i.e. to the battery), then the antennna was a magnetic mount on the roof.

A word of caution here, find out just how your airbags will deploy.

I can't say for Ford trucks but in many cases the dash lifts up. Violently

I personally wouldn't want a CB sandwich

I have a mobile UHF/VHF radio that I'd like to mount in my 2005 so that the radio would be angled up facing me, but down just above seat height in the middle.

I have been looking at Ram Mounts, I use a Ram mount for the GPS on my boat.
It locks in place and stays put in all but the most severe seas.

looks like this.

I"m currently using a RAM mount for my cb and scanner. I have mounted on the floor between the center seat on the dash.
