Default A/C Issue

I have combed through several pages of A/C threads and have not found any situations similar to the one that I am having. First, some background. It is a 2008 Lariat Crew F150 4wd with the 5.4 and 104K on the clock. I live in Texas so it gets hot. It was about 85 the other day and I get in the truck to head home and turn the A/C on and it was not blowing cold, so my first thought is that i need to recharge the system so I turn off the A/C and roll with the windows down and no issue. The next day I do the same thing forgetting what I did the day before and turned the A/C on and it is blowing ice cold. So now I am confused, normally in prior vehicles, if you needed to recharge your system, it gradually got warmer and warmer because of depleting freon, so this one has me confused. Then today, not sure if related or not, I noticed that the heat was not as warm as I thought it used to be. So is it a A/C recharge issue or is something else going on? Thanks for any input.

Sounds more like a blend door issue.
Your air temperature is controlled by how far "doors" are opened inside the dash. Kind of like how you adjust the hot and cold ***** on a water faucet to get a comfortable temperature. If your door(s) aren't opening or closing to the proper position, the temp will not reflect your settings.

It blows hard, but the temp is not reflected. If this falls in line with the "doors" in the dash, is there a way to get to them?

not sure of your problem....but I do know if you have to re-charge your A/C system...you have a leak somewhere...it's a sealed system.

This thread has a link with a video for a repair product. While I am not endorsing the product, the video will help you understand what you are dealing with.

Have you checked to see if your Compressor is engaging when your A/C is on? You could have a wire grounding out... Is it missing or idling rough? When I had my spark plugs changed out my number 8 kept on misfiring and my A/C compressor would not engage. It ended up being a wire going to the #8 COP that had melted against the A/C line. It was a hit or miss. Sometimes it wouldn t be touching and it would work fine, at other times it would be touching and I would have a rough idle and my compressor wouldnt engage.

It does not miss or idle rough and the compressor does engage from what I remember. I will double check today though.

That wouldn't affect the heater issue, though.
The only parts in common with the heater and the A/C are the blend doors.

Okay, since I got some more info on blend doors, i was able to search the forum with that topic and find some good info. From everything I read, that sounds like the culprit in my situation. Now just got to figure out how to fix it, if it was the actuator, it seems like a much simpler fix.
