back off the star wheel adjuster through the little hole on the backing plate.I thought mine were hung up on the P brake too.Actually it was the rotor froze to the axle.soak it with PB blaster and a BFH will knock it off...

No I can pull the rotor off a litle ways but the p brake assembly is stuck on the rotor. I can see it but I can't get it out. I have no idea how it got stuck in the but I definitly need to get it out.

The wheel wouldn't turn if it was permanantly stuck to the rotor. Redneckmafia has the right idea.

I think what you may be referring to is the lip of rust that forms on the inside of the rotor. There is a small leading edge that the parking brake does not sit near and this edge forms a lip of rust. When you try to pull the rotor off it snags on that lip of rust. If that is what it is, its happened to me before on a couple of vehicles.

You need to collapse the parking brake as one of the other posters said using the star wheel. Just spin it until you can't anymore, if the rotor doesn't budge, you went the wrong way. It should give you the slack you need. If it doesn't, you got quite a bit of rust on there.

The other option is to use a slide hammer or rubber malet. The rust should break off, if not you will damage some parking brake components. Not to worry, the replacement parts (Rock Auto, etc) are extremely cheap. I have completely changed my parking brake assemblies on my car and truck last year because they were rusted. Very cheap and you get a working parking brake again...

The reason the wheel still turns is because the p brake cable has been unhooked. I'm gona try to work on it in 2morrow.

Typically a hammer or pry bar will let you force the rotor over the parking brake shoes. Like a few have said it is just a rust lip holding you back. The hammer will brake most of that loose and the pry bar will over come the last bit of rust lip.
