Unhappy Blown Engine? Options? HELP!!!

'06 F-150 50K miles with 5.4L and ROUSH Supercharger. Everything was fine and then running rough when floored. Brought into dealer and started looking for problem. Codes were Cat Conv failure and cylinders dropping out. New Plugs, same problem. Removed Valve Cover, nothing seen, bore scope in #8 cyl which had only 85 psi, no scoring or abnormalities. They say that to tear it down to find problem and fix one cylinder would be very pricey. They recommend new long block which is $4400 and then $2200 in labor. What the hell happened? Does anyone have a guess? Is a new engine my best hope and value for my money? Anyone looking for an otherwise perfect condition crew cab loaded and customized? I'm sure someone can do the work themselves and have a great truck. I don't know if I can swallow $7,000 for this truck to work again. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have. I have some pictures of the truck I will try an put in my profile or email me at fishman1781@yahoo.com Thank you again for any replies!

the one that comes with the warranty would be a good idea to get, i might have to look into that i know when they end up calling me for my truck they are going to say my engine is toast. just got that feeling.

I feel your pain. In 2008 my 04 with a 4.6L went to sh*t. I was up to 1500 in labor and they still couldn't say if it was a head or cylinder. The dealer worked with me and found a used engine with 1,000 miles on it. They ate the initial $1,500 in labor and the final bill was $4,600 for the engine installed. The first engine they brought in looked like it sat in someones yard under a tarp. They called me up and had me look at it. Even the service manager said he wouldn't use it. They called the place bitching and they sent a second engine next day. The second engine looked brand new and I had no issues with it considering I was on vacation and had to drive 800 miles home with a trailer and two bikes.

Default Blown Engine? Options? HELP!!!

Thanks All. I will decide next week what to do. They have to check with Ford and Roush about who will back up warranty if I go with the new one seeing one sometimes cancels the other. I know used would be cheaper but my faith in a used engine at this point is at an all time low. I JUST had the truck on ebay and had offers of $19,000. I have it on there again "As Is" and I have cut my sell price way back. I think someone with some knowledge and capability could make out real well with this. If I go with the warranty engine I will likely just keep it as I will have so much invested that selling it would be too much of a loss.
