I got a 2008 F150 XLT it has backup sensors but I'm getting an aftermarket head unit and I want to put a camera on it. The main reason I want the camera is to back up and hitch up to my camper. Figure since getting head u that has camera input might as well get a camera. But anyways the camera needs to have good view of hitch and look good. Don't want a license plate one. Thanks
Hooked up to my Edge CTS. Had to take the tailgate off to screw it to the top of the bumper.
I haven't driven my truck in daylight since, so no pics of that. I do have LED reverse bulbs installed, and that definitely makes night camera visibility better. I adjusted the camera down so I can see my trailer ball, when installed. You can see it in the shadow in the above photos.
I've also heard of guys ordering the tailgate badges off later model f150 with the cameras built into the badge and installing them in place of the stock badges
The only disadvantage to a tailgate camera (handle or emblem) is if the tailgate is down (hauling long items in the bed); the camera is then pointing back towards the rear differential!
I thinking I might go with toshbar's camera and location when I get mine. I like how it is hidden and in the center of the truck. Also how Bucko said it would work with tailgate down. That's a plus
I bought mine from Camera Source. I used the emblem location. It's great for hooking up the trailer. The higher mount gives you a better view. I rarely back up with my tailgate down.

I've saw those cameras before. If I'm not mistake they are like $200. Which is more than I'm wanting to spend. I do understand your point about having the higher view for hitching up trailers
