Can't wait to see if this conversion works.

mastille, looking over the diagrams I am 90 % sure I can at the very least achieve manual control through the EATC. Meaning that you just wont be able to hit auto and have it adjust the settings but you would be able to manually set the blend controls and fan speeds.... Obviously not ideal but that will allow me to control my Heated seats until i figure out if the auto circuit is possible

Well so far I have been acquiring parts, I got an EATC for pretty cheap (20bucks), I got the temp sensor from ford for 30 bucks, I found a salvage parts place in Oklahoma that was actually willing to get me some of the pig tails I needed and a used blower controller.

If you look at the wiring diagrams the pinout and wiring color codes are the same between EATC and EMTC systems for all the blend controls and the physical ac components. So one of the plugs from the EMTC unit cleanly plugs into the EATC and operates the blend and heat setting like stock.

Once I get the blower speed controller I have to determine if it mounts in the same spot as the original blower motor resister (fingers crossed) or if i have to figure something else to do with it. The wiring to this unit is different but should not be to hard to wire up.

So a question I have for the forum is if anyone has a pic of where this white umbilical hose attached to the in vehicle temp sensor would normailly attach to the air box?? I am hoping that FORD tried to cut costs by only making one style airbox and capping off the hookup on non EATC vehicles. Other Wise I may have to be creative.

I've looked at some pics of various lariats with EATC and you can see to the right of the steering column where there are slits in speedo housing bezel where the air gets pulled from the cab through the temperature sensor. I am not sure how i will mount the temp sensor just yet but I am sure somthing can be easily rigged up to make draw air from the same or a nearby location.

07 Where did you get these images? I would like to see a blow up like this of where the tube for the invehicle temp sensor meets the airbox

thisguyuknow,

how did your conversion work out? did you cut into the air box to fit the new blower speed controller?

I've also attempted this but i used a lariat wiring harness so i have the proper connection for the blower speed controller i just cut into the current spot of the resistor and placed that speed controller there. Now i can get all the speeds working properly and obviously the heater works but it doesn't seem like the a/c is working... i tried it out today since it was like 65 degrees but it just seems to blow air not cold nor hot... I have not yet connected the "white umbilical hose attached to the in vehicle temp sensor"
let me know. thanks.

because you used an entire lariat harness (btw how did you acquire this??!!!) I dont know exactly what your issue is but it most likely has something to do with the UBP system. The EMTC goes about telling the PCM to activate the AC clutch in a different manner than the EATC. I haven't solved this issue yet. Hopefully I will have time this weekend to take a closer look but it may require some rewiring at the dash

I purchased the complete dashboard with the wiring harness and the flow through center console from a junk yard. It came with the automatic controls..
I want to make this A/C work before i continue with the center console shifter conversion...
Like i said I installed the new dash along with the lariat wiring harness and everything works like normal all my lights work the annoying beeping when you leave the lights on or the keys in the ignition.. I cut a square hole in the HVAC? black box under the dash where the old resistor was and put the new blower speed controller.
To make it simple i used lariat dashboard with the complete wiring harness and blower speed controller. Only things i did not change out was the HVAC black box and the instrumental cluster. I have the buttons for the cluster along with the white "interior temp" sensor but i have not installed them. I know where the tube connects to on the HVAC black box right behind the radio at the very bottom of the box but i don't know if it pops off where its blocked off or i have to drill a hole... space is limited and i do NOT want to remove the dash again because it was a pain to get it in there.

again i have heat but no A/C
all speeds work and all modes work. to exclude the a/c

Im at the exact same point as you.. Do you have access to junkyards that carry newer models? None around here ever have any f150s to use as a donor. How much did you pay for the complete dash?? I wouldnt be above changing the whole dash out if i could source one for a reasonable price. I really like the flow though look much better.

As for the temp sensor tube... It is designed to work with a venturi effect as another member posted earlier. So you you can theoretically install it anywhere in the air box so long as it is in a portion that will have air flow regardless of door selection (defrost, floor, panel, etc) and that has airflow in one direction. Basically find an elbow pipe that you can attach to the end of the umbilical and install that elbow so the open end is in the airstream facing with the air direction.

So something like this(the arrows show air flow)

I drew up this diagram real quick hopefully you understand.
This is how it is exactly on the lariat donor truck i pulled all the parts from.
Yeah they have a bunch of new model f-150s but they only had that one lariat truck which i pulled everything from black leather seats to center console and complete dashboard with wiring harness. I paid $150 for the dash... i couldn't pass up that deal.
anyways so like i said hopefully when i have time to look at the truck that slot were that tbar tube connects to the black air box is already cut all i hope i have to do is pop it out and pop in the tbar and connect the tube.
I don't know where the connector from the tube connects to though does that connect to the lariat cluster or????
Will this fix our a/c issue? or is the interior temperature "good to have" does it even matter? all i want is a/c haha cuz already drilled the hole in the air box for the speed control controller....
