Question Anybody know...4.6L ?

Exactly where the 17hp increase on the '08 4.6L came from? I have an '06 with the 4.6 & i'm kinda, (actually REALLY), curious as to where this bump in power came from. Different throttle body? more aggressive tune? I've searched everywhere with no answers.

the Mustang 2v engines had a head change that made a small improvement. They were refered to as "IP" (improved performance) heads by the Mustang guys. I recently read an article on a Mustang forum about 2v engine upgrades...heads/cams, throttle body, headers...

I think you mean Performance Improved (PI) and that happened in 1999 not 2008.

As for the OP's question, I don't know. It was probably in tuning. Just a guess.

No. The 3 valve was optional starting in 09.

Thanks for the replies so far, anymore takers? I know the 08's, (maybe some 07's?), have a different throttle body but i'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I think a lot of it is just a different stock tune.

I am dislexic... Maybe it took a lot longer to put the parts on trucks? Wouldn't be the first time Mustang performance items took a while to roll down the pipeline to other vehicles. Still, a good question without an answer...
