Another IWE question
I know this has been talked about hundreds of times but I haven't found what I'm looking for so I decided to ask anyways. I have a 2004 and it has the IWE system I've tried to figure out what is wrong with the front end but I'm pretty sure of it but I dono I've never messed with this system. When I jack it up (all four off the ground) put it in FWD and the back tires turn but not the front. The passenger half axle turns but the tire free spins. The drivers side axle does not spin but it is locked in if you spin the tire the axle spins. I've checked the lines they have vacuum on it so I dono what it's doin. I'm guessing that the passenger side turns until it binds down then the drivers side turns but I dono that could be way off so if someone could help that would be awesome. Thanks and sorry for the long post

If nothing up front is spinning under power, as your post reads, then you have a transfer case issue. Try tapping it with a mallet, as they can seize up. As for your passenger side, if there's no connection between your axle and wheel, then you likely have a bad IWE. If drivers side wheel is engaged with axle in 4x4, then it is functioning properly.

I am confused by your post. You said that the passenger side axle turns when truck is in drive and 4x4 is engaged, but the wheel doesn't spin. However, you say that the drivers- side IWE is engaged but the axle doesn't spin? The only way that is possible is if your front diff. is blown, which is a big issue. If one axle is spinning, the other axle must be spinning as well.

Maybe the passenger side IWE has gone bad in some way and since you have an open diff up front all the power is going to that side since it's easier to turn.

Quick hijack.
Is there a disengage/engage mechanism at the transfer case?
Is the TC turning and is the front drive shaft turning when in 2wd?
The way I understand it, you have engage/disengagement at the hubs and the TC is engaged/disengaged as well, when shifting between 2wd/4wd.
Is this correct?
This was Ford's way of eliminating all the rotating mass when in 2wd.

From what I understand there isn't an engaging/disengaging at the TC. It just engages the front drivesaft. But Your right bout the eliminating rotating. That's what I've read and understood also.

Alright thank you guys for all of your help. I stumbled across a write up from VTX1800N1 that was awesome and explained the question I had. But I'll try and post the link.
