I would not use a pressure washer. A garden hose, some simple green and a scrub brush is all you need. Pull out your manual it gives you cleaning tips and tells you what not to do. Some good info about it in this thread: https://www.f150forum.com/f4/how-do-...ine-bay-35042/

I buy a can of engine degreaser from Napa and spray the tough spots with that and hit it with a toilet brush lol. Then after that I spray it with my power washer taking care to avoid sensitive spots. Never had a problem knock on wood.

like stated, dont use pressurized water.

what i do is take the battery out of the truck and cover ALL electrical connections with plastic bags so they dont get wet.

(ON A COLD ENGINE)

i spray the engine down with a mist of water, wash everything with dawn dish soap to help break up the grease. spray the soap off and continue till its clean.

DO NOT spray water right over top of the plugs/coils. you can fill the cylinder heads up with water and when you go to start your truck you can damage your COPs.

you can also clean the engine with the truck running but then you have to worry about watching where you put your hands lol

I must be lucky. Over the six years I have owned my F150, I have cleaned the engine compartment 3 times (every other year basically.) The first time I used a powerwasher and some basic degreaser, the second time with some basic cleaner and a garden hose, and the 3rd time in December before changing out plugs. Then I used a Napa engine degreaser, let it sit for 5 minutes and then hosed it off. Started up the engine and let it run for 5 minutes to assist in drying out the motor. Everything worked out OK. But i will say I didn't like it when I saw water sitting in the spark plug engine cavities.....

Good advice to be more careful then I was...

I pressure washed all my vehicles and was just careful in the obvious areas and never had one issue.

I think I'm one of the unlucky one... I believe I got water down in the plugs and it's misfiring and smells.

Never use a pressure washer..

Why?

Because every used car lot has 75% cars with squeaking alternators, water pumps, PS pumps, or idlers.

Try to convince me that's not from power washing the engine bay and blowing crap into the bearings.
