Adding a "message center" to your cluster
In my pursuit in finding how to get the Lariat cluster to work in other F150's (the air conditioning compressor issue), I ran accross this picture that was posted on another site. It describes how to add a message center to F150's that did not have one. The poster cut out the correct size oblong hole in the lower right hand side of his dash to install a message center, and then did these wiring splices to the two existing cluster harnesses:
Attachment 15918
Not responsible for any damages, blown fuses, or other wiring mishaps.

Glad you got it working on your truck!
Saw your pic and wanted to ask ya something.Or maybe anyone else that may know? I have a 07 scab xlt also with a message center like yours. However tho without the buttons right below it.Mine shows trip miles, direction, door open, but no miles till empty,or does it?If it does,i cant get it to work. How easy would it be to add the miles till empty option to my message center if i dont have it??Any help would be great.I am really wanting to add the miles till empty option if i dont have it.

A call to a local Ford dealership may provide an answer as to if a "flash" of one truck models cluster can be flashed into another truck models cluster.
Simply buying a cluster from another truck that HAD these display features will not make them work in your model truck; that's been tried with no success, it still required a flash.
May be easier to just buy a SCANGUAGE II. I have one. Plugs into your OBD II port, and will provide you with the "Miles to empty" as well as many other displays. It's also a fault code reader/reset all in one!

I'm pretty sure there's an EPROM (or comperable memory that's flashed) that stores a given trucks message center's display. The "green" display panel is the same, so it's just a matter of the various equipped sensors (I.E. compass, outside temp sensor, etc.) that feed the input to the software and in turn, provide the displays.
