Default AC issue - compressor not engaging

Hey all, having an AC issue with my 05 SCrew 5.4. I can usually hold my own under the hood with everything but AC... Costs big bucks, so I don’t like to risk it. Coworker borrows truck today and say the AC wouldn’t work. Checked two fuses in the kick panel (I forget the numbers) as well as the AC relay under the hood. All appear to be good. Clutch still doesn’t engage.

My next steps are to check the freon level to make sure it’s full (There is a slow leak requiring me to add about 3/4 can once a year but the compressor has never “not” kicked on) as well as check power coming to the clutch to ensure all the fuses/relays are indeed good. Anything else I should give attn to?

EDIT: Also forgot to add... Truck idles up as it should to compensate for the compressor running, but no clutch engagement.

Could be something with the wiring going to the clutch coil

you can jump the 2 wire plug at the clutch to see if it will kick in.. if it does it's low on Freon.. if not, either power or bad clutch problem.

Low pressure switch kicking it out to save the compressor. Your way off, more than likely, on its R134a contents.

Needs to be evacuated, leak found and repaired and recharged per the under the hood sticker.

Looks like this is gonna be next on list...

Just jumped low side switch and nothing. Checked power to plug with test light and low switch is getting power. Can't really do much being stuck at work today. Also going to check wire going to compressor later. I'll update when I can.

Okay if its the stock compressor its more then likely the deal. Go to oriellys buy the compressor three year warranty. Get low line also comes to around 300 bucks. When you pull orifice tube and its clean you wont have to pull condensor but easiest way to replace compressor is disconect all lines. Get t
new evap flush everything install by draining all oil from compressor that new put the correct oil in put the rest in evap. Make sure system is dry by blowing out core. Then use procedure used by eric the car guy(You Tube) to crank ac. Should put all new orings in and treat with nylog. The procedure for install is in book. just follow it. AC is a closed system and if you have to keep adding fluid there is a leak most likely the compressor. Also make sure you remove orifice tube before installing new one the low tube you get will have one in it the old one may have jammed in the condenser.
