In 2WD mode, the only extra thing the engine is spinning is a direct drive transfer case- not enough to notice the big difference he is talking about (assuming his 4x4 system is working correctly- IWEs disengaging the front half shafts and the transfer case disengaging the front drive shaft).
There is a significant weight difference with all the 4x4 components vs a 4x2, and again a SCrew vs a SCab, but likely still not enough to describe the performance difference. Then again, hers has a longer bed (all other things being equal, that's more weight).
I wonder, does the OP's truck have the cam phaser issue?
