5.4 Excess Valve Noise After Servicing - RAT TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP

Pink stuff. I like that.
Turns out the cam is completely off level. Oil gushes out the back and not much at the front.
I can't believe there aren't replaceable bearings...
Can I put alternate brand (GT) rollers and lashs in?
It's very difficult to believe that a tiny bit of scoring on the camshaft tower has made this head worthless...
My issue is identical to this guys...
https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...l-failure.html
I feel that the difference can simply be machined down and new caps put on... and it wear smooth. The problem is the 4 hours of labor to get the camshaft off. I'd like to unbolt and just lightly and and be on my way....

If you’re looking at the cam shaft, it won’t take 4 hours to pull.
If the cam towers are worn, you need a head. Scoring won’t cause the fame to be “off level.” Can you physically grab the cam and move it around in its caps? How are you surmising it’s “not level?” Visually? A level? Using plastiguage between the cam journals and caps?
The only thing you can do is do it right with the right parts. There is no cheap fix.

Thank you Duke... You can't move the camshaft around at all. It has moved at most 0.010 within caps - at most... more likely 0.007. Where the metal from the top of the cap has been deposited on the bottom of mount and raised the shaft up.
The camshaft is not loose and does not move around.
It not being level was determined by running the truck without the drivers side valve cover on and seeing the oil hemorrhaging out the back and almost none in the front. Likewise the rollers get gradually looser towards the back - at the last few you can physically rock them back and forth 1/8 of an inch.
It does not appear that the minimal damage to the cam tower and cap could effect the angle this much.
I wonder if it was historically a defect with the truck or...?
The oil stopped flowing as a result of the timing chain guides clogging the intake AND SLUDGE from a lack of maintenance.
I speculate that I'm experience oil flow problems that is compounding in the head.
We put the cover back on to attempt to isolate the TAP TAP TAP sound and it was gone. The cover is loose and partially on.
I'm going to put it back together in a few hours and will update.

It has 2 quarts of engine cleaner in it now so I have a lot of flow and variable pressure. There's an intermittent knock and tap on the right side that is ungodly loud.
The engine noise... mostly valve noise seems to be dependent on the computer/PCM.
It will be making a heck of a lot of noise and coughing... then you turn it off. Pause and turn it right back on an it hums? (I'm not certain that this processor is not bad or the ECM needs to be flashed - on top of everything else that has been addressed).
So right now it is idling with 1 big bottle of Marvel Mysteroil, A quart of Gunk engine cleaner and I'm fairly sure there is a half pint of brake fluid in there.
BUT NOW FLUID FLOWS. The head is getting much cleaner after opening it up, but the springs and all of those areas have a ways to go.
I'm cleaning the fuel system... almost empty and on vapors.... and getting ready to add 2 gallons of premium.
I HOPE... and PRAY.... that when I add fresh 5w-20, the TAP TAP TAP / Knocking sound goes away. And it can maintain oil pressure and flow throughout the motor.
We had the drivers side valve cover off yesterday it quieted down and all we did was play with the rockers and inspect them - we also loosed and and tighten the the camshaft caps.
I don't know if there was valve damage or something worse as a result of 2 to 3 miles of highway travel after the oil pump failed as a result of the pickup screen being complete clogged from timing chain guide plastic AND engine sludge.
The combination of issues has made it... challenging.

12:15 Update... Turns out all the hot rich women are fleeing Venezuela.... and showing up here in Florida! God Bless
Anyways... The knock is almost gone... BUT OIL PRESSURE IS VERY LOW. Right now it's hot and has been idling on and off at least an hour. When I turn my back and tend this Latin fitness model, the oil pressure drops below the 7 psi indicator. The idle sounds the same though. Gently press on the gas and she pops back up - above psi.
I'd like the oil pressure to stay up... firm - like this girl's amazing fake breasts.
Suggestions?
I plan to idle again this evening and rev to 2000 and use a few gallons of premium and then change the oil tomorrow or Wednesday. I also have the new Meuling high flow pump installed.

7 PSI from the new pump... What pump is it? Mine idles at around 60 psi in park, Hot, and 40 psi hot in drive. Something isn't right. Does it sound like a tug boat?

A dead tug boat.
Died in the autozone parking lot. 15 miles away.
I'm fairly sure the timing is off. it Pulled codes for the pcv and timing on both sides...
I'm under the assumption the timing was off and my buddy simply replaced what was wrong.
How can I check the timing - easy as possible on this 2004 5.4?
Now I had to ride a bicycle 6 miles back... and hitch a ride from the toughest Indian you've ever met...
But.. Thank God my other car is a Porsche.

If only you spent as much time fixing the truck as you do bragging on the internet.

Fair... but that's not very fun...
and I'm lining up women in my other browser. (:
It was 85 and perfect today. (:
Seriously though - My trucks issues are identical to this other guy: https://www.f150forum.com/f4/timing-off-388969/index4/ - all said and done his plugs were his problem. I don't want to be that guy in his garage all night.
Honestly, I'd rather be driving this truck around.... you can't get head in that car. Period. You'd think otherwise... So, the truck needs to run!
Plus, I'm just a guy doing the world and Ford a favor by rescuing this rig and keeping the longest lasting truck on the road record going.
So kindly, how would you check the timing on the cheap and easy?
Can I use a magic gun and just point at it or how does it work?
My buddy is insistent the timing is correct and he has photos.
Oh... I'd be bragging if once a rich woman had me sleep in her Malibu guest house... for a year... or was it two. (:
