Default 4x4 Problem! Help plz!

Ok, so my 4x4 doesn't work. My lights come on the dash but obviously my hubs are out or not locking. Has anyone else had this problem?mines a 2008, I work a lot so I don't have time to fix it myself. I just don't want to pay for ford to figure it out for me… thanks.

I had a similar problem with my 2007 Lariat 4X4. Took it to the dealer. What was wrong was a vaccum solenoid that switches the vehicle into and out of 4 wheel drive was defective. It would put it partially into 4 wheel drive. Also made a significant noise above 45 mph. Might not be your problem but it's worth checking out. Good luck.

See mine makes a noise only when I'm in the throttle. Sounds similar to a loose heat shield.. And thanks for your input

All of my noise was coming from the transfer case area. I'm sure it was there all the time, but didn't get loud until above 45 mph. Dealer changed the solenoid and never had another problem.

don't understand... if your not going to fix it yourself...whoever is going to fix it you have to pay them...more than likely your IWE solenoid located behind your battery on the firewall...very easy to replace and not expensive at all.

I don't want to pay for them to figure out what's wrong with it. I was just seeing if anyone ha the exact same thing happen so I could just buy that part and have them do it.

Might be the actuators. My '04 had a good rattle while on the hwy, turns out it was them. Haven't replaced them yet, waiting for them to go completely. Ford quoted about $800 (cdn) for the pair.
