No offense but I am master ford certified in driveline! If you look up on FMC dealer if you even have access to it that the recommendation of replacing wheel bearing with the IWE is key! Mainly because IWE goes out and then hence grinds the splines down and off on the wheel bearing! Some cases granted if caught soon enough may not need to replace the bearing/hub assembly but it's highly recommended! I usually refuse to work on a vehicle if it needs wheel bearing replaced with IWE and customer declines repair! Just going to mess up again with the same issue grinding and no 4x4

I'd have to say each IWE is about $140 or so each and wheel bearing is $350 give or take I know my cost on the IWE yesterday was $82.12 and the bearing was $252.74 but that's my employee cost! They mark it up do idk exact retail costing! Just a rough estimate of $500 a side excluding labor and taxes and stuff!

OP, Are you able to do mechanical work yourself? If so, you can save hundreds of dollars in labor by doing the work yourself. The parts are available online at much cheaper prices than most dealers sell them. IWEs are about $80 each, solenoid about $30.

Here is a good trouble shooting guide, followed by "how to" replace IWEs;

http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/836438-everything-you-wanted-to-know-about-the-iwe-system-and-then-some.html

http://www.f150online.com/forums/2004-2008-f-150/360269-iwes-removal-replacing.html

I replaced both my IWEs three years ago and did not replace any bearings. I have not had any issues since (35K miles) and I use my 4x4 regularly. That's just my experience.

I changed both of my cv shafts. Got them from autozone (life time warranty). After core it came to like 80 each and for hub/bearings I got timkin. You can find them online for around 150 ea. depending on corrosion, it isn't too hard to do. My passenger side was really corroded and took me about 4 hours to do and the drivers side was clean and only took an hour to do

Is the nut holding the cv shaft to the bearing on there! That's really bad movement shouldn't do that normally! Pull the center cap of the rim off and the dust cover off the center where cv shaft comes through! Check and see if it has the nut! Also do you have the original cv shaft in it and or a leveling kit in the truck?
