The seals were shot so it would not hold vacuum therefore causing it to always be engaged or half engaged causing the grinding sound in 2WD.

I must be confused? Isn't that what I stated in my post? When the truck engine is running it creates vac to pull the hub back to stay in 2WD, then if you select 4WD it releases the vac to engage the hub...

With the truck started and vac pulling, the half shaft should not turn, just the wheel should turn. If the vac is not pulling then the half shaft will turn because the hub is still engaged.

Found out what was really wrong the 4wd does work. It's just the axle that goes to the hub is disconnected like I could almost pull it out of the hub.
Any body know what it is to fix or how to

Sounds like you're in the market for a new CV and likely a new IWE if there is that much play in it. Won't be cheap!

When replacing a IWE you must do a wheel bearing as well! If you don't it will never be right! That's if it is the IWE! Check the splines of the shaft to make sure they are all smooth and not chopped up or sharp edges! If it does replace it to save future repairs! Just did my IWEs and wheel bearings today as well as new tires and front breaks! Took me about 3 hours at work! But do both IWEs and wheel bearing at the same time! One new will make other weak

I work at a ford dealer and these actuators go bad all the time you do not need to change the wheel bearing everytime you chane the actuator I have never done that before
