Default 4x4?????

I am sure this questions has been asked a million times, but I need the correct way to engage 4 wheel drive. It seems like I have tried them all and I get nothing . No light no clunk no a dam thing. Any guesses on what I need to check? I will be changing tie rod ends and I am going to check vacuum lines and anything obvious. Any of you guys has had this issue?

Just turn the switch for 4Hi and put it in neutral for 4Lo.

It's very easy to tell by just making a tight turn, you can feel it. Not good for the front tires though so switch back as soon as you verify.

find a nice gravel/snow/mud/ice patch, push it in 2wd until you get wheel spin. switch to 4wd and try again. if it doesn't hook up and go, you've got a problem.

All I hear when mine engages is a relay 'click' from the passenger's side footwell.
