Default 4wd assembly

Has anyone ever used prime choice hub assembly? I have a 06 f150 that the 4wd drive stopped working and checked everything only to find out that the hubs are bad. Looks like a good deal on ebay. Any suggestions on this brand

the hubs or the IWE

Normally the IWE gets chewed up before the hubs

I thought the iwe at first but I did a vacuum test and everything checked out fine except the cv axle on passenger side continues to turn even out of 4wd. That would mean something on the hub right? When I engage 4wd, I can feel transmission locking in but from tires don't turn and there is popping noise sometimes. I figured replacing the hub assembly would be a fix

popping noises is from the IWE stuck between engaged and disengaged. I fixed the issue by having a splined gear collar that goes on the hub teeth and straight to the CV teeth. that way locking cv axles full time. I took out the solenoids and hoses and gutted the iwe everything except outter seal. works like a dream, igot tired of the IWE setup

Iwe is just the vacuum solenoid behind the battery right? I tested that about two weeks ago with a vacuum test I found and the conclusion came out to be the hubs. I may have been wrong. I mainly just want it fixed and my 4wd working again.

IWE = Intergrated Wheel Ends... these are what Alex discribed to you... the IWE Solenoid on the fire wall controls theses wheel ends to vent or provide vacuum.. you have a partial engagement of your IWE ... that's the noise you hear. you either have a bad solenoid... bad vacuum lines... or a leaky IWE.. you hubs should be good unless you have been driving around with this noise for a long time.. in that case you have chewed up all the spline.

What do I need to check? And what steps should I take? I honestly thought the wheel assembly was bad.

you pulled vacuum at each IWE and they unlocked and held ? then you pulled vacuum from the solenoid line and they disengaged and held.. no leak down ?

I pulled vacuum line off of wheel assembly and there is vacuum going to both sides. I found no leak. Driver side working fine. Just passenger side not working

Just cause there is vacuum on the lines doesn't mean the IWE is working right.

Pull a vacuum on the IWE by itself see if it holds vacuum and disengages

the hubs require vacuum to disengage. So if the hub is engaged you have a vacuum or IWE problem

Get on of these to test everything out
