4 wheel drive conversion
yeah thats what ive seen too. Thats probobly what i will end up doing is just buying a 4X4 cause it will be a while till I will have the money anyways.
Glad to hear it, because usually when I say that people end up being all snarky with me, but it is more cost efficient to get a truck with 4wd, and it also comes that way from the factory with less chances of something coming apart.
Well I dont know what your trying to do, but if your not getting into any serious off roading you can always upgrade to a limited slip differential, I had a f150 with one of those and I almost never used the 4X4, but I wasnt really going through swamp or thick mud either. They cost about $300 I think and will litterally make your truck a whole new beast when it comes to offroad.

Yeah the limited slip will definatly help you, the thing is it really does change the way the truck feels and handles(not in a bad way though). You can look in jegs or any major autoparts seller or buy one right from the manufacturer(Auburn gear, eaton, ect, ect).
You can also do what Princejo said too and go for a full locker, a locker will make the truck even better than a limited slip iin an offroad situtation. It does cost $700+ though, last time I looked, which was a while ago.(ARB air locker, detroit locker, ect, ect)
Basically the way a standard differential works is it allows one tire to spin more than the other, so when you are turning the outside tire can turn faster. Unfortunatly though this means when offroading the power is going to go to the wheel that has the least amount of traction, therefore you get stuck. With a limited slip it will still allow you to turn on asphalt(hence limited slip(it still allows the outside tire to rotate quicker when turnining on dry asphalt)) no problem and it is always there working, so if it is snowing you will still have power going to both rear wheels. With a Locker you will have better traction, but you cannot turn with it or your outside tire will be skidding. The locker typically costs more, but it also has a selector switch so you can turn it on and off, unlike a limited slip. With that switch though you have to have a power source, some lockers are electronic some are air actuated.
Bassically both are good, the locker gives you more traction, but it costs more and can only be used offroad, the limited slip is cheaper and can be used everywhere(you have no selector switch), but you get less traction in comparison with a locker.
meh....Trade it in for a 4 wheel drive and be done with it. No matter how good the back wheels spin, you can only go so far with 2wd. u dont need to only be going through mud to need 4wd. I used mine alot this hunting season on steep hills and rocky terrain, and its priceless in snowy conditions (on or off road)
