Default 3 valve

I was going 80 and lost all oil pressure, did not lock up but metal everywhere in oil pan, in your guys experience is the 3v worth rebuilding?
If I did rebuild I would probably throw some thumper cams in for ****s and giggles opinions

Honestly if you've got the extra cash, just buy a crate engine. This particular one has the upgraded phasers and spark plug fixes: https://www.powertrainproducts.net/P...xU4aAnWt8P8HAQ

I called this powertrain products about that motor. They claim they use OEM parts and gaskets, turns out they are dorman phasers and victor reinz gaskets. Just FYI. They do use an upgraded melling oil pump

Jasper has a good reputation. Be careful getting aggressive with the cams. It'll require a custom tune and you might end up chasing a check engine light, plugged cats and overall driveability issues.

I'm in need of a 5.4 as well. You'll see sticker shock when a junk yard wants $2450 for a motor with 100k+ and $2500 for one with 65k miles. I'm hoping to find a wreck on Craigslist and steal the motor. That or convince a ford dealer to lower the price of a reman, probably wishful thinking

The only reason I am going to rebuild is cause I just had my third kid with some issues and I can do it over a period of time, I won't be able to shell out 3000-5000 at once..

Yeah then craigslist could be your best bet. Find a wrecked, take the motor and scrap the truck

Well in order to rebuild, you need to pin-point where the metal shavings are from. Likewise, buying a craigslist truck just sets you up for the same potential issues with a motor that you just had.

Regardless of the truck situation, I hope everything is going to be good at home with your new baby. There's REAL stress and worry.
