Thats instant, average it out with accel and idle and you will prob be around the same as normal. It doesnt the same thing when I run the fuel ecomomy test with the for ids scan tool, you can get some pretty high readings at cruise and decel but then average the rest and it in the same ball park.

Yeah I know the average is based off everything that I get with everything added together..but what I'm trying to understand is if I'm driving a long distance and it says my instant mpg is 25 im assuming that's what im getting at the time while cruise is set or if I'm just driving down the road..cause I just drove about 25 miles out of town and it said the whole time I was getting between 21-27..so in that 25 miles I just drove was that one gallon of has used? Or is this thing just a little off

Do you have tire size and gear ratio setup correctly, if so you may see that mpg temporarily, but average will be lower. If cruising at 55 that may be correct.

Yeah truck height is still stock and rims and tires still stock until later changes..but when I saw I was getting 25 just cruising going 55 mph down the road i was kinda skeptical about it thinking it was wrong

instant MPG is what your getting at that very second. if your idling, it should say 0. if your cruising, you may very well be getting 25 mpg. average them together and you get your 15-17 mpgs like everyone else gets. (just using the 15-17 as an example of an average mpg.) does that make more sense or did i confuse you more?

Yes, that is correct. If you were to fill up, get on the highway and set the cruise control to 55, and not accelerate or decelerate, go up or down hills, just a perfect level road without any nature problems, then yes... you would be getting roughly that amount. Probably more like 21-22 though.
Those readers aren't very accurate. My truck will say I get 16 something, my programmer says 17 something, when I am actually hitting 15.1-15.3mpg

Always keep track of your own miles if its important to you. And also don't top off the tank, this way you get a more accurate reading. Once it clicks off, call it a day.
I use fuelly.com to keep track of my mpg.

I understand I just assumed 21+ mpg while cruising was kinda high and figured it too good to be true..but apparently it's reading right

Do a test tank and go on the highway at 55, I would like to know the readings compared to actual and what your programmer says
