Question 2006 F150 Odometer light problems

2006 F150 the numbers for the milage/temp/compass/trip keep flashing on and off. The problem is getting worse as the lights are know remaining off for longer periods of time. Does anyone have a quick fix for this?

I have been getting the same thing for the last few weeks. Usually if I give the dash (just left of the radio) a good whack it will come back on. I guess I'm not the only one with this problem. Not sure if that a good sign.

Here is a repair I found by searching the forum. I am finally going to do this repair today. It is for a 2000 so hopefully it will be the same for a 2005 or 2006. I will let you know if it works.

Ive got a similar problem with my 07 but I am assuming one of the lights for it is just burnt out making it useless at night. Not sure if theres a way to replace the light.

It looks like the fix for the 2000 cluster will not work for the 2004-2008 clusters. I think a used cluster with similar mileage is the most economical fix for this issue. Here is a good discussion about the cluster swap for 2004-2008 model year trucks.

Well I could not get the link up. Just search "cluster swap revisited" and you will find it.

Remove the cluster and replace the bulb for the lower right "display" panel.

This bulb is slightly larger than the other cluster bulbs, as it is brighter when the parking lights are off.

My guess is that the filiment inside the bulb is burned out/broken/weak.

Replace it.

In my case, and I think most others, it's not the light it's the actual lcd digits that flicker on and off. The illumination always works but sometimes it lights up a blank display.

I did take the cluster out before bumping this thread. I looked for cold solder joints on the display and it looked good to me on a quick inspection. However in the link posted for the older trucks people were saying that it was very hard to tell of the joints were broken unless you looked very closely, and some even needed a magnifying glass. I will probably take the cluster back out and re-solder all the joints just to make sure.

It works. I have an 04', new body style, that I pulled the cluster from. The joints are to small to see cracks. I just re-soldered all of the joints directly behind the odometer display. It now works without any flickering.
