I need a FOB but worried about needing 2 sets (master/slave) since I only have one. I have a 04 Lariat 4x4 and really like the look of the flip key. Has anyone been able to successfully program the flipper with 1 key and same year etc...

Well I got tired of scratching my head and gave up and went to a locksmith and had them program another key for my truck, first it was going to be $70 to clone the one I had ,and then $120 to use a programmer to program one with another RFID chip that would work as the master/slave combination with the original to where I could program my own in the ignition. I went ahead and shelled out the $120 and was able to program my Ebay switchblade key after that. I made sure I did it it in a dealers parking lot in case I screwed up where I wouldn't have to pay a wrecker to go get it towed. It was easy following the instructions in page 98/99 in the manual.......

Basically stick 1st key in, turn ignition on run position for a couple seconds, cut off off and stick the 2nd key in and do the same thing and then do it with the key you want to program. I just couldn't see shelling out for a new OBD2 programmer and then gambling as to whether I'd screw up my original key or something and wouldn't be able to start the truck, sorry for not taking one for the team and gambling with my luck!
But on the same subject I did find a very good video on how to program a key with forscan if you only had one key.....
After watching it and searching the Strattec site for what blank key I was going to need and trying to figure out what all different abbreviations on them meant, it just had me scratching my head harder and I figured I'd just go to a locksmith and have them knock it out today while i was off work and be done with it.

Interesting! i went ahead and bought 2 flip keys on ebay and should be receiving them whenever they come. Do you mind sharing what exactly you told the locksmith for the $120 package? Do i just say I need a master and make my current key a "slave key"? Also I only bought the flipper for the convenience but will program the new flip keys once I get 2 keys from the locksmith. Guess it's official that two keys are needed.

I called around for prices at different locksmiths telling them i wanted a key made for my truck and couldn't figure out why some were quoting me about $75 and others were quoting about $120. The guy I went to quoted the cheapest and was the closest. When I got there I told him what I was trying to do and he told me the cheaper price was just making an exact duplicate of the key I had or he could use a programmer and go out to my truck and make a second key with a different chip ID inside it and it would be like the trucks come with and I told him that's what I wanted. While I was talking to the guy in the shop another guy went outside and was doing the programming thing, I went out there and tried to figure out what software he was using and how exactly he was doing it but he seemed like he was trying to be all secretive and he didn't know what the software was called or what not, it was hard to get a straight answer from them. I did see he was using some kind of Samsung tablet of some sort, what kind of OS was on it i don't know for sure as by the time I walked outside he was damn near finished. As far as the master/slave key terminology the guy I spoke to originally was'nt familiar with that term and said they were just going to make a key with a different chip id in it of some sort.

It obviously can be done, the guy in the video did it, you just have to use the correct programmer (which I didnt have) and a a good quality key blank which I wasn't sure if I had or not, but it can be done, like I said the guy in the video did it.

I'm telling you, find an Ace hardware with the Duracell key program and they can do it. My store charges $15 to program a key if you bring it in. If you buy a new key from us, most of them run $79 (new key programmed to the truck, not a clone).
