Default 2004 Extra Key

Brother just bought a 2004 Screw FX4 with one key. Dealership told him they must program the key or it could take the truck into "key kill mode" and it's like $100 for them to cut and program the extra key. That sound right to you guys???

Yes it does because they have chips in them and they have since like 99. But if your just talking about him locking his key inside the truck then you should be able to go to somewhere like walmart and get one made for like $2 or $3 for you to unlock the door. And those style of f150s wont lock if the drivers door is open and you push the lock, button thats what the manual says anyway. I have a truck just like it.

Yep.

you can program a third them by yourself ...but the second one need to be programmed by the dealer.

100$ that's what I paid for my ranger a couple year ago.

i made my dealer cut me a second key and program it free of charge that is just wrong to buy a vehicle and then charge the customer that much for a second key that should have come with the vehicle in the first place...

Seems a bit high but living here in the midwest, things are generally cheaper. We just purchased privately a 2005 Fx4 with only one set of keys. I had the local dealer create two sets (with chips) for me. Cost of keys were $20 each and $45 to program both keys. Total of $85. I decided on 2 extra keys since he informed me the programming would be $45 regardless of 1 or 2 keys.

EBay it, its like $25 or less for the key and fob, and comes with the directions to program it to your vehicle, $100 way to much.

Any decent locksmith will have generic programmable keys and can clone your current key, even if you only have one. That's exactly what I did, I think it cost $45.

The generic key is kinda ugly though, but now I've got two keys and can buy a real Ford key off of EBay and program it myself.

My hardware store runs programmable keys for 40 bucks, so 100 seems at tad high
