Default 08' Front Bumper Removal?

So I hate to ask dumb questions but I have been looking at how to take the front chrome bumper off my truck. I saw a couple of posts that shows how to take the upper bumper pad and front bumper off but I also read that you can take the lower bumper off without removing the upper bumper pad. Is that true and most of the diagrams I have seen only show pics for a 2004 and I am not sure if a 2008 bumper would be different or not.

Any help is appreciated as I would like to take them off by next week to have it line-x.

Thanks in Advance

Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the hood release retaining bolt.
  2. Position aside the hood release assembly. Disconnect the hood release cable routing retainer.
  3. Remove the 3 front bumper cover-to-front bumper bolts.
  4. Remove the hood-over slam bumper bolts.
  5. Remove the hood-over slam bumpers.
  6. Remove the 3 air dam pin-type retainers.
  7. If equipped, disconnect the fog lamp electrical connectors.
  8. Remove the 4 bumper mounting bracket-to-front bumper nuts. To install, tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).
  9. Remove the front bumper.
  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Transfer components as necessary.

Tuna: Thanks for the help and I saw that same picture in another thread when I was looking around but I also saw someone say that it can be removed without taking the top part of the bumper off. I am curious if that can be done or if you have to remove everything as in the diagram you posted . Thanks again for the help and maybe I should have clarified in my original post.

The threads I saw were someone mentioned just taking the lower portion of the bumper off did not explain how to do it and only mentioned that it can be done.

Looks like the top molding is only connected by a few bolts and you should be able to remove the bumper from the molding without removing it.

hey man i did this on my 08 just a few months ago i got in a tiny fender bender and picked a new chrome bumper cover up off craigslist (ended up needing the brackets too) but yea there are just those plastic rivets holding the painted part of the bumper to the chrome, and a small bracket back there. it comes off pretty easy, but man is it a pain to re align.

if anyone has any suggestions for helping align the bumper please include them (not to jack the thread but you will need them too!!) mine sags on the sides enough to bother me but is straight across the top
