Default To Z plan or not

Hi everyone,

Great forum, just discovered it a few weeks ago. I'm buying a 150 this week--thinking either supercrew Fx4 or Lariat.

Since we're so late in the model year, and the dealer discounts are higher to clear the '10s, I was wondering if I should proceed WITHOUT mentioning I have a Z plan, in the hopes of getting an even greater discount? My understanding is when I mention I have a Z pin, they just quote the plan price, plus the Ford incentives. I can see the value of the plan if used earlier in the year, but am wondering about now. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

"A and Z" plans are the same savings. "Z" plan is for retirees. "A" plan is for active Ford Motor Company employees and their eligible relatives.
"X" plan is for neighbors and friends and not as much of a discount.

So to answer your question, it doesn't matter how much you negotiate, you will never do better than "A or Z" plans.

Have the dealer show you the invoice and the plan pricing is right on there. If they refuse to honor your plan pin number, go to another dealer that will.

And yes you get all incentives as well with the plans.

I had the dealer run USAA pricing and Z-plan pricing. Z-Plan was the better price for sure. At the dealership I ended up going to, they were able to come in about $300 under Z-plan with some big truck selling event they are running. I should note: This was with the $750 coupon Ford was sending out for awhile plus Ford Rebates plus dealer rebates. So, normally I would say nothing will beat Z/A-Plan but I agree, with the end of model year upon us, it can't hurt to shop around and ask the question. I drove two hours to get the deal but for an extra $300 why not? My local dealer would not go below Z-plan and they didn't have the truck I wanted anyhow. Good luck.

A/Z plan is 3% or so BELOW dealer invoice (not including incentives) so the dealer lost money selling that vehicle. 1st time I've ever heard of that.

Update: I went in and gave the Z plan pin, purchased an Fx4 Crew with lots of upgrades. Total MSRP was $46,825. Z plan down to $40,863. Then incentives brought it down to $36,363.

I saw some sheet the salesperson had, and it mentioned dealer commission on a z plan was $2450, so I highly doubt they lose money on any sale. Anyway, can't wait to get my first truck!

X-plan is actually for companies that either contribute to ford, or are Partners. My company is a Platinum Preferred partner, therefore my x-plan discounts totalled 4200 when I bought my truck new in 06, and that was on top of the discounts they were offering at the time.

Yeah, I've been selling Fords for over 10 years now.... Dont expect any dealer to go below Z-plan. It doesnt get any better than that.

-Listenloudly- The Z-plan commission you saw, is the re-imbursement from Ford to cover the difference between invoice and Z-plan. Its not that they're making that much money.

That's true, the people on here that say they got below Z are either lying or the Dealer lied about the "REAL" invoice. There is just no way to get better than that.

I think some are confusing Z plan with X plan.

Exactly. And to add, the salesperson makes very little on an "A or Z" plan sale
