This is correct. It is now $275, which was the same amount the dealer is charging me without X-Plan. It used to be $75, but was raised in 2010 or 2011.

And both destination and regional dealer fees are baked into invoice, so you should be on the same playing field comparing X-Plan to other quotes.

But as you say, you should make sure you ask if there are any other fees besides the $275 doc fee.

The guy I talked to near me said there was absolutely no way I would beat X-Plan and I shouldn't waste my time trying, then the next guy I talked to beat it by over $800 keeping fees the same.

Some states have laws stating the cap. Here in WA they cannot charge more than $150.

X-plan is usually more. Unless you aren't dealing with the right pricing service (www.Zag.com, www.truecar.com are excellent) or are a very uninformed or unwilling negotiator. Or trying to work with a podunk dealer who gets so few cars he doesn't bother offering good deals.

First off, rebates are rebates. You'll get them wether or not you use X-plan. Same with 'private cash' (like the brochure coupon), trade in assist, and finance rebate. You get it all, X-plan or no X-plan. So forget about rebates for a moment.

It comes down to dealer discount... X-plan is fixed at I believe $200 over invoice, with a fixed small maximum D&H. On my FX4, I paid $1,000 under invoice, with a slightly higher $250 D&H.

Bottom line? X-Plan would have been at least $800 more expensive in my case.

currently, $100 is the MAX FEE a dealer can charge for a doc fee if you're using the X-Plan (azd).

Where you're screwed is if the dealer charges NO DOC FEE to start with, then tacks that on "just because they can".

Ok, to clarify, since I posted something else, I'm looking at an X-Plan PIN sheet. It says that the dealer is permitted to assess up to $100 in documentary fees. In addition, there is a $275 administrative fee that is supposed to be included in the X-Plan price, not assessed separately. Interesting, though, the first dealer I talked to wanted to tack that onto the price.

There is an excellent thread with lots of good X-plan (as well as A-plan, Z-plan, D-plan) info here:

https://www.f150forum.com/f38/what-a...-x-plan-98232/

A few excerpts:

Pricing Formula

The AXZD-Plan price is the amount shown on the line labeled appropriately near the bottom of the factory invoice. The New Vehicle Purchase Program price includes advertising, finance costs, transportation, and Company Administration Fee.
X-Plan is a pre-determined price based on dealer invoice or A-Plan price depending on brand. The X-Plan price is noted on the dealer invoice.

AZ-Plan
Dealer Invoice - Holdback - Advertising Assessment + Administration Fee* (see sample invoice)

X-Plan
Dealer Invoice - (0.4% * Dealer Invoice) + Administration Fee* (see sample invoice)

*$275 Administration Fee for 2010MY vehicles, $75 Administration Fee for 2009MY and prior vehicles.

The $275 is already included in the X-PLAN price.

Dealer Invoice - (0.4% * Dealer Invoice) + Administration Fee* (see sample invoice)

The $100 is a fee the dealer can add for "processing".

The invoice above is what the dealer is required to show you if it's a AXZ plan deal. Now everyone that said they can beat X-plan did the dealer show you this form, with the A and X plan listed along the bottom? I have been dealing wth X-plan a long time and the only time I beat AXZ plan was with end of year vehilces that where left over. Notice that the A-plan price is below invoice price and the x-plan is about a thousand dollars higher. A-Plan is what a Ford employee pays, somewhere in the area of 2% below dealer cost, X-plan is around 2% above dealer cost.
