Why did you go 2WD or 4WD?
I didn't find a thread about this and was wondering why many of you went 2WD or 4WD? The obvious reasons are there for many of you, however, for guys like me the choice was actually a tough one.
I ultimately went 2WD cause I live in Dallas, TX - and it's mainly a city truck with light hauling with our boat and such. Also, the ride quality I found to be alot better to live with on a daily basis.
What were some of your reasons? I do have to say, that 4WD is nice to have when you need it, but I couldn't see myself needing it but only 2 times a year - maybe.

The reason I went 4x4 are as follows:
1-I shoot a lot and many ranges I go to are off the beaten path.
2-Winters are not the nicest around here and my Sentra wasn't cutting it.
3-I have one of those jobs that I can't call in sick for when the weather is bad.
4-My wife told me that if I was going to have a truck then it better be 4x4

Went with the 2wd also. I couldn't see myself using the 4x4 much either. People say its great in the snow but I've never had a problem in the snow with my 2wd.
Plus, I am more into the street style truck. I think I lowered mine just right, so I can still use it as a truck when I need to.

Gotta laugh when i see the 2wd's from the south racing around here in ND during the summer. Come winter there either riding the bus or call us for to pull them out of the ditch. For me its not a truck without 4wd just a car with a lot of trunk space. IMO

I picked 2WD for the same reasons OP.. I'm in Arlington. I have never needed 4wd in Texas, and I hunt in the hill country, .. but I have an old Jeep for when it gets muddy. I really like the way the 2wd handles as a DD.

Think of it like this. In the south when ur buddy brings home a new 4x4 ya all run out and droole. In the north if someone gets a 2wd we laugh and give him the number for a tow truck.

For me it was a mix of things. Going to the beach, offorading when I can, towing the boat on some steep ramps, grew up around 4x4's, etc... Mostly it's just preference, I've had 10 4x4's and now they're part of my life.

I live in Virginia and the winters here are either mild or it snows *****hole deep, plus driving on some these dirt country roads can get pretty nasty when it rains along with driving out on the beach and stuff. So I've always lived by the notion of it's better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. That 1 time you need 4x4 is worth paying the extra money to me.
