I'm going to assume the OP got it figured out by now but just incase, TMax nailed it with forscan.

Normally when this item is replaced at the dealer they connect with IDS and download current programming, then replace the rack and upload the old data to the new rack.

When the repair is performed outside of a dealer, all one has to do is go to www.motorcraftservice.com/asbuilt and input vehicle VIN# then locate and input the PSCM info found into the new rack and done. Then get an alignment.

So i'm pretty handy with both a wrench and a keyboard, but i have to be honest, this doesn't really give me enough to get going. I looked at the FORSCAN tool on Amazon. I went to the motorcraftservice website (and registered). But i'm not connecting the dots. First, i don't see where to put in my VIN on the website. Second, i'm not sure what software i'm supposed to use on my computer to connect to the FORSCAN tool (via bluetooth) and program my "car". Third, all i see on youtube is how to reprogram the PCM... i just want to reprogram the EPAS. Is the EPAS "code" part of the PCM "code"? Any pointers would be very helpful.

Default What if dealership “can’t” help

Bought a refurbished rack for 2015 f150 and took it to the local dealership to have it programmed. After waiting for 2 hours they came out and said that they couldn’t program the new rack, because I had to buy a factory one. Seems like a simple backup and restore to me, happy to do it myself, but don’t know what I need to do so. Found that I could download the FJDS software, but what do I download it to???

Talk about greed... I can't believe the dealership would turn away money just because they can't get the big bucks of installing a new rack...

The dealer may not want the liability of having a used rack fail which is perfectly understandable. However in cases like this when we would use something an owner supplied we made them sign a waiver and happily took their money. I think there's more to the story than is being told.
