Default Wheel offset

Just purchased a set of Fuel Vapor wheels for my wife's leveled 2014 FX2. They will be replacing a set of stock 18x9 rims. She is running 295/70R18 tires. I noticed the wheels have a -12mm offset. I know nothing about this measurement but from what I can kinda understand, I think this will "push" the wheels out a bit from the fender? I don't know what the stock offset is. Can someone please give me an idea of what this means and if there will be any difference from the stock wheels? I'm hoping it wouldn't affect anything. Thanx in advance for the help!

Stock FX wheels are +44.

If I can explain this right... the offset is the distance the mounting surface of the wheel is from the center of the wheel. So if you draw a line down the center of the wheel, say a 9" wide wheel, the center would be 4.5". A -12 offset, means the mounting surface of the wheel is 12mm towards the back (about 1/2"). The lower the offset, the more the wheel sticks out. The higher the offset, the more it sits inside the fender. Now the offset is relative to the wheel width. A -12 offset will sit different between a 8" wide wheel and a 10" wide wheel.

To give you an idea, my truck has 18x9" with a +30 offset. So yours would stick out approx 1 3/4" further out than mine do. (approx 25.4mm? = 1 inch)

If you are using the same tires mounted on those Fuel wheels, the tire sides will be 2.2" (56mm) further to the outside than when mounted on the stock wheels.

You might try parking the truck on level ground and dropping a string down each fender and along the wheel center line to get an idea about how much difference that 2.2" will make in the tire position in relation to the fenders.

I thought all stock wheels were 7.5". Maybe not the raptors. But no 18x9s.

I looked at those wheels and loved them but I was told they would rub without a lift. I can lift my truck right now. I went with fuels but they have a +20 mm offset. They stick out about an inch and 1/2. Not a great picture but it somewhat shows it.

This is a better shot.

When i ordered mine a couple of weeks ago i was going to go with the -12mm offset but the guy said that it wouldnt work. I told him i was going to get it leveled but he said it probably still wouldnt fit right so i went with the +12mm. I dont have the level on yet, but it does rub at times.

-12mm will have a bit of poke. This is my truck with 20x9 wheels and -12 offset. Just slight rubbing in reverse at full lock.

-12 will rub on the crash bars of a SuperCrew for sure, you will need to grind those down or remove them without a lift. -12 is actually the preferred offset for lifted trucks.

Here is mine on 20x10 -24 with a 6" lift:

I appreciate all the input. After posting I did find that the OEM stock wheel is 18x7.5. Truck is leveled and we have no rubbing at this point, guess we'll see. As long as any rubbing can be corrected with trimming or whatever, I'm good. I'll post when they arrive & are installed (I was told maybe 2-3 weeks). Thanx again for all the replies!!
