Default What is that damn smell?!?!?

Ok, first off I've searched for a similar thread and can't find one. That being said over the past few months I've been noticing an odor. It's coming from the driver's side rear of the truck. A little background info: trucks a 2010 f150, with a 6.5 foot bed and a 5.4. The smell is a mix between gear oil and a dead animal. I can't for the life of me pinpoint it. I've crawled under it, and see no fluids of any kind leaking. So I was wondering if anyone had a similar situation. I wish someone could smell it besides me. Any help or imput appreciated. Thanks!!

Could be a dead rodent.

There are holes in the frame and in the rockers big enough for a small rodent to get in. The rocker holes have tape over them.

Thanks for the thought. But it's really on the outside of the truck by the back tire.

I thought off the dead mouse/chipmunk ect. Given the hot summer here in pa, I would have guessed the smell of a small rodent would have "dried up" by now lol. Thanks for the input tho fellas

Did you look above the spare? Plenty of space up there.

did you remove the left rear rotor? could be an axle shaft seal leaking that
hasn't shown itself outside the rotor or backing plate yet.
