Weak headlights???
I have a 2011 F150 FX4 and I am dissapointed with the headlight brightness. Driving through a rainstorm last night, I could barely see in front of me. Obviously, fowl weather reduces the effectiveness of your headlights, but this was bad. The headlights in my 97 tacoma were better than my 2011 F150.
I did a search of this forum, and it seems like for the most part, folks have been happy with headlight brightness. In some instances, the headlights were even too bright. This makes me wonder if somehow I have a defective unit.
One thing that I noticed, was that the bulb cover (not the bulb housing) is completely black. I compared this to another new F150 I saw in a parking lot yesterday, and the same piece was silver. I am wondering if this is the cause of my anxiety...
I am away from my truck right now, otherwise I would include a picture in this thread. What do you guys think?

the black part you are referring is just a styling effect for 2011. that shouldn't hinder the performance of the lights.
do you have a leveling kit on the truck? that would point the lights higher and reduce their effectiveness as well.
If not you can still aim them lower, check your owners manual for directions.

The light reflector in the housing is still silver... The black is to make it look more sporty... It doesn't affect the light output... Go outside tonight,,, turn on the headlights,,, walk 25 feet away from the front of the truck and look at the lights... If they aren't bright enough,,, take the truck into the dealer and ask for new bulbs...

My 2011 FX4 is just a couple of weeks old, one of the first things I did was order 5000k HIDs from ddmtuning.com. I don't think the stock lights are weak, it seems, the low beams, they are both pointed at a spot about 30-40ft in front of the truck, and have very little coverage to the sides. The high beams, however, I am very pleased with, but I haven't had them on any poorly lit back roads yet either...
This is almost exactly the opposite of the 2010 Tacoma that I traded in, it's head lights were very diffused, making the light seem weak but spread over a wide area. HIDs helped a lot.
